"My Big Fat Panel: How Seed Oils Cause Obesity" on A Neighbor's Choice with David Gornoski

David put together a very interesting panel, with Ray Peat, Peter Dobromylskyj, Cate Shanahan, Brad Marshall, and myself discussing the role of seed oils in causing obesity.

"David Gornoski sits down with Dr. Cate Shanahan, Dr. Ray Peat, Tucker Goodrich, Brad Marshall, and Dr. Petro Dobromylskyj. The conversation revolves around the question of what causes obesity. What explains the correlation between seed oil consumption and rising obesity in America? If obesity is a signaler, what is it saying? Listen to the full episode as these questions and more are explored from different perspectives."

Here's the video:

And here's the audio link.

I've written about this at length, of course, "Does Linoleic Acid Induce Obesity? A Response to Stephan Guyenet, Part 1" and Part 2.

Additionally, I presented a much shorter version of those two posts at the Zero Acre Farm Future of Fat summit, here:

P.S. Here's Peter's take on it, which I agree with.

Interview: The Coming Food Crisis with David Gornoski on A Neighbor's Choice

Another weekly appearance on David's radio show.

The video at the link contains both hours. Skip past 45 minutes for the second hour. It's a call-in, so no video
"Also in the show, Tucker Goodrich calls in to talk about the coming food crisis and what we can do to prepare. What aspects of our agricultural market do we need to rethink?"

Zero Acre Farm's Future of Fat Summit—Thursday, March 3, 2022

It's tomorrow, but sign up today. Registration is free, and all the panels and discussions will be available online.

Did you know that 20% of our daily calories now come from vegetable oils? And that most of it is hidden in packaged foods, restaurant meals, and even products like oat milk?

‘Vegetable” oils may sound harmless, but they’re actually linked to widespread health and environmental issues. [*]

And regular consumption of oils like canola oil, soy, sunflower, and palm oil can increase your risk of death by 62% — more than heavy drinking or moderate smoking? [*]

Even the most health-conscious people I know will make exceptions for certain takeout meals or restaurant foods. After all, seed oils are everywhere.

But it’s time that we change that.

And a future without the ubiquitous use of toxic seed oils starts with education about how we got here and why certain oils and fats are so problematic.

That’s why I’m partnering with The Future of Fat Summit to discuss the latest in nutrition, food science, and environmental science.

I’ll be presenting on What Causes Obesityat this free virtual event on Thursday March 3rd at 10am CST.

Will you join me? Register here

We’ll cover topics like:

  • How Seed Oil Consumption Turns Body Fat into a Toxin-Generating Machine

  • How Vegetable Oils Cause Obesity

  • What’s Worse? Seed Oils or Sugar?

  • And much more
