Mitochondrial dysfunction appears to be the root cause of the metabolic syndrome, as I stated in the title to this post:

I noted that cardiolipin (CL) is the part of the mitochondria that is most subject to dysfunction, through oxidation of its linoleic acid (LA) constituents (it contains four, on an industrial diet, and is known as tetralinoyl CL (TLCL)).
