Barefoot Running In Cosmo (Well, Sort Of)

She's headed in the right direction:

"The shoes are super light-weight so you can feel the ground, but they give you enough support that you can just throw them on and go. (Unlike the barefoot shoes, which you have to get used to gradually.) I tossed on my new Brooks this morning, went out and jogged my standard five miles and I felt fantastic. Different—but great. I was sore in new places (like a part of my calf muscle I didn't know existed) and I loved the nothing-on-my-feet feeling (these things weigh less than a hairbrush)."

Brooks Announces Their "Minimalist" Line

At least I think that's what they're doing... Tough to translate jargon into English:

"So on October 1, we will introduce the PureProject collection from Brooks. PureProject is a new line of footwear that promotes a natural ride and a truly unique running experience in a lightweight package. We utilize a new proactive approach to biomechanics called Ideal. Ideal technology is built into the very geometry of these shoes. It was created to promote a runner’s ideal alignment by attempting to shift force application points to align force vectors, and then load internal structures to enhance performance and decrease the risk for injuries. With this incredibly unique product line, the shoes work together with the body to put runners back in the driver’s seat. Let them be completely connected to their runs, hugging the turns, and dynamically tuned into every step."

See here for what may or may not be a picture of this shoe...

FUD On Barefoot Running

From Michael Sandler's Facebook page:

"We heard an impressive attack on barefoot running yesterday by a lead researcher for the only major manufacturer NOT producing a minimalist shoe for 2011. Speaking before 500 running store retailers about the 'barefoot running swindle' he quoted nearly 30 year-old research, showed a barefoot runner heel-striking, and tried to discredit Dr. Lieberman. Our concern about his attack - it could directly affect which shoes retailers decide to carry for 2011. If you want choices and selection, please contact your favorite local running store this week and let them know you want more minimalist shoes! Let your voices be heard!"

I'm guessing he's referring to Brooks.

I don't think we need to worry about the shoe retailers.  They've gotten the message loud and clear, with a few exceptions.
