We discuss the effect excess linoleic acid has on the mitochondria and the electron transport chain, and what effects some of the metabolites of linoleic acid produced during mitochondrial breakdown have on the body and chronic, "Western" diseases.
Here is Paul's site with notes on what we're talking about with some references, and my outline/notes for the podcast:
Linoleic Acid and Its Metabolites, a Primer

With a ridiculous number of references, including links to a bunch of other posts of mine that this builds upon (see below).
And here's the interview he did with Peter , which we discuss several times:
Enjoy!
Paul has a lot of good material and interviews, so do consider subscribing to his podcast. I have.
P.S. We did a follow-up, published 8/23/2021:

ReplyDeleteI’m a tad confused about his attitude to eggs. In his podcasts he says “eggs are bad because the chickens are fed corn and soybeans” and they have linoleic acid, but in his books he praised eggs and lists them as an appropriate carnivore breakfast.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really good podcast - thanks Tucker. I've also been checking out other podcasts you have done e.g. Break Nutrition, Ivor Cummins. Your clarity and depth of knowledge on the mechanisms of linoleic acid in the body is impressive. And you're able to communicate it all really well for the layman (e.g. me), with a clear narrative drive. IMHO, you you should write a book on the subject. There is no book out there that covers this ground. Cate Shanahan's books are good but they are broader than just seed oil and they don't get at the range of harms. or bring out the mechanisms with the clarity that you do. The world needs this book.
ReplyDeleteIn response to Dexter's commnent, I think Paul Saladino's views have shifted a little since his book was published. He is now much more conscious of linoleic acid in pork, chicken and eggs. And he has eased up on carbs a bit - he is anti-honey in his book, but has recently been pro-honey and eating it himself. He probably needs a second edition.
