  2. I've been getting free-range "soy free" eggs that smell like fish. Now I know why, flax. RP always has some useful arcane knowledge.

  3. That part about whole milk consumption and hard work throughout the day resonated with me. I don't really workout, but I throw hay in the spring/summer. I keep well over 30 sheep/lambs, 10+ goats and 50+ chickens on top of working a day job and being a taxi driver to my kids who are on multiple cheer comp teams. I swear I have the body of a 20 something year old. If you want to be bad ass, raise small ruminants and eat a real food diet.

I think that this is the British physician that Ray Peat was referring to when he was talking about sugar supplementation bringing diabetic patients back to decent health. I found this journal from 1858 listed in the references in one of his blog posts. It has a single case study written by William Budd whereby a diabetic patient (sugar in his urine) regained strength and weight by supplementing with a lot of sugar, maple syrup and honey. The patient was 18. I'm assuming he must have had type 1 diabetes. If I remember/understood correctly Ray Peat thinks that the sugar somehow returns function to the pancreas enabling it to produce insulin again. Anyone else got any thoughts on this?

I think that any type II diabetics listening to this might get the wrong end of the stick and think that supplementing sugar may be beneficial for them, but the function of their pancreas is not necessarily impaired and so supplementing with sugar may not necessarily have the same positive effect as in the case for a type I diabetics.

  5. Interesting conversation.

I did glean some useful info, but think Ray is off in a few of his points.

I got the sense Tucker had some disagreements, but remained silent in order to continue an amiable conversation.

I'll definitely be digging into where I feel he is incorrect.

    1. Yes, Professor Peat is 85 years old. I was interested in talking to him, but a debate didn't really feel right.

I don't, for instance, agree with his idea that sugar consumption is a good idea, per se.
